Our
History
What began as a support group has transformed over two decades through the hard work of many hands to become a deeply trusted, multi-operational, and diversified organization. We work to develop the services that are appropriate for our rural locations, and best address the needs of the vulnerable populations we serve.
In 1993, Alianza was founded in response to the need for an HIV resource center in the southeastern communities of New Mexico. At that time, individuals came together to help address the questions, fear, stigma, and pain that so people many were facing. Alianza began offering harm reduction services in 1998, providing the initial data and outreach that proved the need for syringe replacement services in the state of New Mexico. We have since become a trusted resource for those needing harm reduction services in our region.
In 2012, Alianza celebrated the opening of a second office location in Las Cruces, expanding our services across the southern half of the state.
This pattern of addressing the needs of vulnerable, underserved, and stigmatized populations continues with expansions into housing services for people facing eviction or experiencing homelessness, and the addition of state-wide distribution of harm reduction products to other state and nonprofit partners, substance testing services, and medically assisted treatment navigation programs.
Helping Those in Need
Alianza of New Mexico was founded on the idea of helping those in need. Since our organization was established, we have endeavored to provide help where the need is greatest. Today we are a small staff covering two offices: one in Roswell, NM and the other in Las Cruces, NM.
Our Programs
Housing Programs
Alianza provides a variety of specialized housing programs. We work in partnership with Housing New Mexico (formerly NM Mortgage Finance Authority) and HUD to provide housing assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS through our HOPWA program. We also offer rapid rehousing and eviction prevention in 6 counties, and supportive permanent housing for people who are referred by our partner agency MHR in Curry County.
Each housing program is provided for specific geographic regions determined by the funding source, have unique eligibility standards including proof of income or other criteria, and require clients to be engaged in case management services.
Our Services
HIV Services Program
Our HIV Services Program provides person-centered specialized case management for individuals living with HIV. By including both medical case management and supportive non-medical services we work to provide for the unique needs of each of our clients and the challenges they face in rural communities.
Alianza partners closely with medical providers so that our team can help each client achieve and sustain viral suppression because Undetectable = Untransmittable and we know that treatment is prevention.
